Workshop: Kink, sex and pleasure

  • Kip 120 West 31st Street, 3rd Fl New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

Our clients are exploring their relationships with desire and pleasure in a number of ways, and it becomes a clinician’s responsibility to hold a safe and comfortable space for them to do so. Misunderstanding, assumption, and stigma can cloud our understanding of clients’ sexualities, desires, and related interests and can hold us back from a real and helpful case conceptualization. This workshop explores the less-understood avenues for physical and emotional connection, including bondage and discipline, domination and submission, sadism and masochism (BDSM), kink, and fetish- related desires and practices.

Joie Adam DeRitis, LMSW is the Director of Kip's Division of Gender and Sexuality. She is a psychotherapist specializing in mental health treatments with transgender and gender non-conforming populations, and with the broader LGBTQ community. Joie has extensive experience in LGBTQ and social justice education, as well as in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. She thinks and practices from a psychodynamic and relational perspective.
